Courtice Community Opportunity Scan (CCOS)
Update – July 2011
Have you heard? The churches of Courtice are working on doing a Community Opportunity Scan, and the CCOS team has been busy! We have been “interviewing” each of the 15 churches in Courtice to learn more about their activities and the ministries they support. We are also working on interviewing principals and vice-principals at each of the schools in Courtice. Soon we will be moving on to interviewing local businesses and community agencies, as well as Courtice residents.
As you can imagine, all of this takes time, so volunteers are needed! If you’re interested in helping out, you’re more than welcome; contact Sonia or come to a meeting.
More information can also be found at our website: ccos.wikispaces.com Contact: Sonia (courticecos@gmail.com)
Meetings: 1st Thursday of every month at 7 pm at Hope Fellowship Church
Cleaning at St. Vincent's Kitchen
Some members from Hope Fellowship participate in the cleaning of St. Vincent Pallotti Soup Kitchen in Oshawa. These crews do the dishes and clean the kitchen, dining area, and washrooms after the daily meals are served. For the last number of months we have been lacking some basic cleaning supplies for this task.
The Service and Outreach zone, along with the deacons, are supporting the collection of the following items:
- sponges and/or cloths for washroom cleaning
- toilet bowl cleanser
- bathroom cleanser
- medium and large sized rubber gloves
- disposable gloves (for food serving & light cleaning)
- toilet bowl cleaning brushes
Your donations can be brought to church over the next few weeks and placed in the recycling bin next to the mailboxes in the foyer. We appreciate your help in restocking these items. Thank you!

Promotions Team
Are you passionate about sharing what we're doing at Hope Fellowship with those in our community? Do you have a few ideas that you've always wanted to share? With so many ministries happening during a typical week, along with our Sunday services, we have a lot of ways to connect with those around us - but only if they know about them. A Promotions Team is being formed to help get the word out to our community and you are invited to take part. Please contact Chris at admin@hopefellowship.ca if you would like to join.
Kitchen Committee
Do you have an inventory list of all your pots, pans, dishes and cutlery at home? Can you stand blindfolded in your kitchen and find the muffin tin and flour without bruising your shin?
If so, then do we have a job you! The Kitchen Committee is being formed to act as a link between the Community Building Team, the Property Committee and the various groups that are interested in renting our building for events that include food.
You would be involved in recommending purchases for new items, ensuring that there's a place for everything and everything is in it's place and helping us make the most out of our warming kitchen without drawing the attention of the Fire Marshall. If this sounds like a job you would be interested in, please contact Chris Ritskes, admin@hopefellowship.ca.
Community Opportunities:
An Appeal from Bowmanville Friendship Club
Bowmanville Friendship Club is an interfaith Ministry which provides an evening of worship for people with intellectual disabilities. We have been very blessed to have Maranatha Christian Reformed Church donate their facilities for our use every Thursday evening. Every year, the number of Friends attending increase in number but our helpers decrease in number. Please come and see what our ministry is all about. Our Thursday night worship begins once again Thursday, September 15 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.. Even if you travel during the year or work shifts and are afraid that you cannot commit full time, this Ministry is perfect for you as we will take any time you can give us! Please join us, the rewards are tremendous for both you and our friends!

Whether you're a veteran rider or a first-timer rider; we'd love you to join the The Lighthouse in the Ride for Refuge ride at various locations in Ontario (see www.rideforrefuge.org). You can form your own team of riders and challenge others to join your team. Here’s your opportunity to make a difference by helping those who are vulnerable. Ask your friends and family to sponsor you or your team to help our cause. To register a team or sign-up please email Rob at rob@lighthousecentre.ca or visit and register at www.rideforrefuge.org.
